PhD program

Each year the LIGHT S&T Graduate Program launches a call for applications for PhD students holding a Master's degree in physics, chemistry, biology or equivalent.

The PhD students enrolled in the Light S&T doctoral program are part of a first-class research environment and technical know-how. They find the benefit of a quality approach in the supervision and mentoring support, and are also trained in a well-balanced and perfectly structured manner. Besides the three years specific research project, further training and modules provide a deep insight into skills which are primary components of an excellent foundation for their future in academia or industry.

Student Chapter

PhD students of the LIGHT S&T cohort can be members of the existing OSA/SPIE student chapter, wich gathers students in optics and photonics.

How to apply

Prerequisites for the application

Be enrolled in the first year of doctorateat the University of Bordeaux in one of the following Doctoral Schools : Physics & Engineering, Chemical Sciences or Health and Life Sciences
Perform research on a thesis subject labeled by LIGHT S&T

Required documents

A curriculum vitae
A cover letter from the candidate
A research project (2 pages max.)
An official transcript of marks issued by the university, showing rankings
An electronic copy of the Master's thesis

Conditions of the PhD program

Selected PhD students enter LIGHT S&T and can benefit from some training courses and mobility grants during their PhD.
Recruited PhD students join a 3-year doctoral research and training program and act as LIGHT S&T's ambassadors. Together with their thesis supervisor, they are committed to promoting LIGHT S&T in their communications or research result resulting from a visit or a project supported by the Light Sciences and Technologies Graduate Program.
